The idea machine

Writing guide 03

Hello, writing person. Since the last blog post, quite a bit of time has passed and quite a bit of development has occurred.

My first book release is noticeably approaching, and even though I have now decided to add another round of corrections, I am already working on the second (and third) volume of the Time Loop Trilogy.

That this "tandem writing" often comes with the fact that as a writer, one cannot decide between projects and occasionally just writes haphazardly - at best jotting down notes for future books - is probably well known.

How do I handle this situation? Just when the ideas for new books are piling up higher than those for the ones I should actually be writing?

For this case, I have found these simple tips and strategies to deal with the "idea machine" as a writer and author:

1. Write down all your ideas. Completely irrelevant whether you plan to write them or not - once you've noted them down, the space in your head is free again for new thoughts. (Deshalb habe ich meist ein Notizbuch oder meine Notiz-App am Handy parat).

2. Focus on the project that is most important to you right now. For me, for example, it's my debut novel - even though I would really like to write the second volume right now, it makes sense to finish the first one first and gather the plot for part 2 in the meantime.

3. Don't put pressure on yourself. If you notice that your feeling is pulling you towards that one, new story, then write it. As written in the first point, I consider it most important to write down your ideas, whether you hold them in a book in the future or use them in entirely different projects.

Until the next post, I wish you a wonderful time.

Lady Elisa Marie
